This statement is True.

Triambakji was the chief minister of Peshwa Baji Rao II.

Triambakji goaded Baji Rao II, to work towards taking control of the Maratha confederacy. He also encouraged the Peshwa to fight the British and free the Marathas from the British rule.

The British East India company's emissary was murdered at the behest of Triambakji and the British requested the Peshwa to handover his chief minister to them. Though he was jailed subsequently, he managed to escape.
