The Hernandez family bought two adult passes, and two child passes for a total cost of $220. How much does each adult pass cost? How much does each child pass cost?

Let adult be x and child be y

In first case

4x+y=290

y=290-4x. Eq( 1 )

In second case

2x+2y=220

Substitutig eq( 1 )

2x+2(290-4x)=220

2x+540-8x=220

2x+540-220=8x

360=8x-2x

360=6x

X=360/6=60


y=290-4x

=290-4(60)

=290-240

=50=y
