Let the two numbers be x and y,
given that 60% of x = 40% of y
let us form equations,
0.6 *x = 0.4*y ---- (1)
=> y = (6/4)*x = 1.5 *x
it is also given that the sum of the numbers is 120.
x + y = 120
=> x + 1.5*x = 120
=> 2.5 *x = 120
=> x = (120/2.5)
=> x = 48
the larger number will be y
y = 120 - x
= 120 - 48
=72
