First we understand what is map?
A map is a copy of the globe on a flat paper. It is easier to see the distance between two places on a map. It is Easier to carry map from one place to another.
We need maps because they are useful in understanding various features of the Earth surface.
Types of map:
On the basis of scale maps are two types:
1. Large scale maps: these maps shows very small areas in detail.
2. Small scale maps: these maps shows very large areas with fewer details.
On the basis of function maps are of three different types:
1. Physical map:
Physical map represents the physical features (landscape) of a particular place. The features are represented with different colours. for example rivers, oceans Seas & other water bodies are represented with blue colour & mountains, plateaus , hills are shown with different colours and shades.
2. Political map:
Political map does not show geographical features it shows the political boundaries of a particle place.
For e.g state boundaries and national boundaries of a place. These boundaries show the location of cities given on the map.
3. Thematic map:
This map shows one specific theme which could be Road , Highways, , Railways, crops , industries e.t.c
