Johnsy fell seriously ill in November due to epidemics of pneumonia. But she was also depressed as she was unable to paint the Bay of Naples. So her illness was basically depression. Also she didn't want to live as she was a struggling and unsuccessful painter. So the cure for her illness was not medicines but only and only the desire to live.
I've added a few things from my own side which has not been given in the book like the Bay of Naples stuff. Hope it helps you.
