Bio-gas is an eco-friendly source of energy. Despite of its merits it also has some disadvantages.
i) It’s a very complex and inefficient process. No technology is introduced yet to improve this process.
ii) After much refinement, it still retains some impurities.
iii) 37 degrees Celsius is the optimum temperature for creating energy from bio gas. Due to climate change it is difficult to get this temperature.
iv) It cannot be started in the dense metropolitan area due to the unavailability of excess amount of raw material.

The disadvantages of biogas as source of energy:
Biogas is a combination of different gases like carbon dioxide, methane, ammonia, carbon monoxide, etc that are formed due to decomposition of organic matters like vegetable wastes and cow dung in a closed chamber. It is an eco-friendly fuel that has moderate calorific value.
But, it has a bit of disadvantage like-
- Being mixed with oxygen, it can catch fire easily.
- It has not very high calorific value, and can only be used in cooking.
- Its production is time-consuming.
- It has very toxic gases like methane, carbon monoxide, ammonia which are toxic to human body.
- It needs to be stored for future use.
