Early Homo sapiens followed the game which travelled according to season, rainfall, etc. Early humans were hunter gatherers. They had their hunting routes, places where they process the kill, caves to which they would return next season, etc. It was not until humans learned to grow and harvest in place, did they begin to put roots down. They eventually domesticated plants and animals and learned how to store food over the winter to ensure they had some form of continuous food source. The first in place agriculture per se began about 10,000 years ago. However there are still modern day hunter gatherer tribes who live much the same way our ancestors did.
