This line means that saving Sebastian was the aim of the game, but in actual Micheal had to save Sebastian from the game because in the game nothing would happen to Micheal because everyone was trying to kill Sebastian, and when Sebastian Shultz died the game gets over at that time.

While reading an article, Michael had come to know about a boy who had no chance of recovering from the coma, but miraculously he was saved and his name was Sebastian Shultz. The named seemed familiar to him. One month ago Sebastian Shultz had met with an accident while playing a video game in his car. He had banged his head on his computer and his memory was stored by the computer, Sebastian lost his memory and was in the coma in hospital. Michael had purchased a video game in a computer fair. While playing a game, he got a message from Sebastian Shultz to save him. He played two games and failed but was able to save Sebastian in the third game. He had also got mail from Shultz thanking him for saving his life. Michael couldn't believe that Sebastian was real, but this incident made him believe it and all this made him say that Sebastian Shultz was a game.
