Element- Basic form of pure matter that cannot be broken down into simpler forms through any process.It has one type of atoms . Eg. oxygen,carbon etc.

Compounds -it is a substance composed of two or more elements chemically combined in fixed ratio.It has more than one type of atoms eg. water,sugar etc.
