Hey there,

Loss of -HX that is when hydrogen is bonded with hallogen is called dehydrohallogenation.

Eg-
CH₃CH₂Cl+KOH-->CH₂=CH₂+HCl

It is used for formation of alkenes.

PLEASE MARK AS BRAINLIEST IF HELPFUL!!!

removal of hydrogen and halogen form a given compound
---------------
de - removal
hydro  - hydrogen
halo    - halogen

hence it is called as dehydrohalogenation as both are removed from the compound
---------------------------------------
example :-

CH3 - CH2 - CH-Br - CH3 +KOH --------> CH3 - CH2 -CH2 - CH = CH2
                                                                        + CH3 - CH2 - CH=CH - CH3 + KBr                                                                                                                     + H2O

here 2 propene is the major product

The major and minor product can be understood by the Zaitsev's rule

the preferred product is that alkene which has the greater number of alkyl groups attached to the doubly bonded carbon atoms
