What is fuse? Why is a electric fuse required in all appliances?

A fuse is connected in a circuit which melts itself and helps the circuit during overloading. To protect the devices during overloading so that they can't burn.

a fuse is just like a switch used to complete a circuit and allow electricity to pass through it and protect the appliances from overloading .Thus all aplliance need it.
