Iron reacts with oxygen and moisture present in the atmosphere to form a brown ,flaky substance called rust.Rust of iron is undesirable change because of the layer of rust is formed falls off , exposing the metal to further rusting . As a result , iron objects become weak with the passage of time .Thus , rusting is defind as the process of slow eating away of iron due to the atack of oxygen and moisture on its surface

When a metal comes in contact with oxygen and water, a brownish or yellowish layer is formed . This is called rust . This process is rusting .
