The calvin cycle refers to the light independent reaction in photosynthesis that take place in three keg steps. Although the calvin cycle is not directly dependent on light , it is indirectly dependent on light since the nessessary energy carriers (ATP andNAPPH) are products of light dependent reaction.

The Calvin cycle is also called C3 cycle because during this cycle carbondioxide is reduced to triose phosphate and subsequently via other metabolic pathways to carbohydrates .type of plants in which first product stable product is glycerate ,3phosphate contains 3 carbon atoms are called C3 plants and the cycle called C3 cycle.
