what is the importance of mucus in walls of food pipe?

mucus helps to swallow food easily by lubrication through the food pipe  also known as oesophagus, it takes the food to the stomach where further digestion takes place.

the importance of mucus is :

1.  the gland in our food pipe produce this product called mucus.

2. this product mucus is a type of lubricant for food so that it would slide easily through our food pipe and reach the stomach easily .
