Aastik ; the word has its roots in hindu mythology and is frequently used in the context of religion and spirituality.

Aastik is a person who believes in the existence of god. It’s the opposite of nastik (one who doesn’t).He doesn’t have to see god to believe his existence. It’s the faith and trust that makes a person “aastik” and not just merely visiting temples or attending bhajans. Having being born in a Brahmin family, my parents decided to look for names related to Hindu mythology and thus came up with “aastik”.I’m not a hard core or staunch devotee of god but I do my bit through prayers (especially during exam time; lolz).

There have been some hilarious instances when I’ve been called by some other names rhyming with aastik- “nastik”, “plastic”, “drastic”, etc. , especially amongst friends ,but I always take it on a lighter note as one should.
