What is the meaning of the term frequency of an alternate current? what is its value in India? Why is an alternating cureent considered to be an advantageous over direct current for long range transmission of electric current?

Alternating current means its polarity (direction of flow of current ) changes alternately from +ve to -ve and -ve to +ve.

Frequency means the number of times the signal (current/voltage) reaches its maximum or minimum in one second.

In India the frequency is 50 Hz.

AC is an advantage for transmission over long distances as the power losses due to heat dissipation in the wires, is less for AC than DC.  AC is safer than DC for very high Voltages.  Also, it is easier to generate very high voltages in AC than in DC. The cost of transmission for AC is also less than DC.  It is easier to generate AC than DC.  Also it is easier to step up voltages in AC than in DC.

Answer:

Frequency is the rate at which current changes direction per second.

In India, the frequency is 50 Hz

Alternating current is considered to be advantageous over direct current for long range transmission of electric current because it loses lesser energy during transmission. Also, AC can be stepped up and stepped down using a transformer, whereas ir is harder to do so with direct current.
