this paragraph explains how the northern plains were formed..
the himalayan uplift out of the Tethys sea and the subsidence of the Northern flank of the peninsular plateau was the reason for the formation of the large basin...which simply means that the subsidence of the plateau got washed there to form a large basin.
as time passed by...the sediments that got washed from the mountain in the north and the peninsular plateau in the south got deposited there..this resulted in a flat land of extensive alluvial deposits which was then known as the northern plains of India.
