what should a farmer do if you suspect bird flu virus in infection in his poultry farm

Hi. Bird flu is a common reason a lot of people die due to every year.
The flu is spread through a virus, hence, getting rid of the problem is difficult as virus usually are immune to certain stuff.

However, when it comes to farmers, the first thing they can do is use insecticides and pesticides. These sprays may not kill the virus completely but may control a little.

The most workable advice is that once the farmer identifies the virus the crop should be wasted, and the soil must be replaced. Virus work in host cells, hence, killing the crop only would work best in situation like this.

Avian Influenza which can also be known as bird flue. In many cases H5N1 is the most common bird flue  that had caused certain mortality in many poultry farms of various countries.

H5N1 virus is known to be highly contagious which have the ability to attack Humans and animals from birds when they get a close contact with the affected bird.

The H5N1 was discovered back in 1997 and has estimated that it has killed nearly 60 percentage of infected.

Some of the common symptoms that can be found in the affected birds are

  • Lack of coordination
  • Sudden Death
  • Purple discoloration in combs and legs
  • Diarrhea
  • Nasal discharge
  • Swelling in head, hocks and eyelids.
  • Misshapen eggs.

Prevention and treatment of the bird Flue in birds.

WHO has recommended Oseltamivir and Zanamivir antivirus drugs for the treatment and prevention of avian influenza. However there are no antivirus drug for H7N9 type of viruses.
