His main contribution to the world of science was his theory of electrolytes(1887) which states that "certain substances that dissolve in water to yield a solution that conducts electricity, are separated, or dissociated, into electrically charged particles, or ions, even when there is no current flowing through the solution".

He was the first to use basic principles of physical chemistry to calculate estimates of the extent to which increases in atmospheric CO2 will increase Earth's surface temperature through the greenhouse effect. He predicted that a doubling of CO2 due to fossil fuel burning alone would take 500 years and lead to temperature increases of 3 to 4 °C (about 5 to 7 °F).

He carried out wide-ranging experimental studies of bacterial toxins as well as plant and animal poisons.

There are many more contributions of this great scientist to science but these are the most important.

Svante August Arrhenius was the co founder of the modern physical chemistry. He made the important contribution to chemical kinetics and many other different branches of science. He was very familiar with the equation which he developed related to describing the temperature dependence of chemical reaction rates. He was the co founder of the modern physical chemistry with his theory of electrolytic dissociation.
