Swami Vivekananda concept of “daridra Narayan" espouses that service to the poor is service to God. Mother Teresa has majorly contributed to this concept by dedicating her life in the service of mankind, especially the poor & destitute.
Contributions of Mother Teresa
1- Setting up hospitals for poor leprosy, HIV-AIDS & tuberculosis patients; ensured access to medical facilities for the poor. Ex:- Shanti nagar in Calcutta for lepers, Prem Dan etc.
2- Shelter homes for the destitutes & homeless, such as the Home for the dying in Kolkata
3- Started schools in slums to educate poor children.
4- Came to the rescue of people in war-torn or disaster-struck zones. Ex:- rescued children in Israel-Palestine conflict, fed the hungry in famine struck Ethiopia etc.
5- Founded the Missionaries of Charity in various parts of the world to serve the poor & needy.
6- Shishu Bhavan for abandoned infants who were taken care of by the sisters.

She was bestowed upon with numerous awards and honours (including Nobel peace prize & Bharat Ratna). Despite her ill health in later life, she continued to work for upliftment of the poor. Her actions made the world realise that even the poor have a right to live with dignity.
