PPV & FR Act (Protection of Plant  Varieties and Farmers’  Rights  Act ) was passed in 2001. It's main aim is of encouraging new methods in agriculture sector. The objective of PPV & FR Act is to protect the farmers’  rights in respect of their contributions and to encourage the development of new plant varieties.

In this act  ‘Farmers’ rights,  ‘Breeders’  rights and ‘researchers’ rights are protected.
