Anhydrous Aluminium chloride (AlCl_{3}) is a good lewis acid and it is electron deficient.

Whereas the Hydrated Aluminium chloride (AlCl_{3}) is a poor lewis acid since it has the water molecules.

Diethyl ether have the lone pairs. These lone pairs are donated to the Anhydrous Aluminium chloride (AlCl_{3}) spontaneously. Because of this Diethyl ether is soluble.

Thus, Diethyl ether is soluble in the Anhydrous Aluminium chloride rather than the hydrated Aluminium chloride.
