Anhydrous Aluminium chloride () is a good lewis acid and it is electron deficient.
Whereas the Hydrated Aluminium chloride () is a poor lewis acid since it has the water molecules.
Diethyl ether have the lone pairs. These lone pairs are donated to the Anhydrous Aluminium chloride () spontaneously. Because of this Diethyl ether is soluble.
Thus, Diethyl ether is soluble in the Anhydrous Aluminium chloride rather than the hydrated Aluminium chloride.
