Answer:

Nervous system and circulatory system interact with each to expel the waste product carbon dioxide.

Excretion by circulatory system:

  • At tissue level, carbon dioxide is trapped as bicarbonate (RBC) which is transported to the alveolar site and excreted out as CO₂ in exhaled air.
  • Around 7% of the CO₂ is also transported as dissolved CO₂ in the blood.
  • CO₂ + H₂O ⇄ H₂CO₃  ⇄  HCO₃⁻ + H⁺
  • It is catalyzed by carbonic anhydrase enzyme.

Nervous system helps in regulation of the respiration.

  • The centre present in medulla (CNS) called as respiratory rhythm centre is primarily responsible for regulating the respiration.
  • It regulates the breathing majorly in response to the CO₂ concentration in the blood.
  • It sense the change in pH and CO₂ concentration of the blood flowing in blood vessels with the help of receptors present in vessels and regulate breathing accordingly.
