Birth of Siddhartha, the four encounters which lead him to the path of detachment, the six ascetic years and the defeat of Mara which is temptations and finally the Enlightenment which is called the Parinirvana.  

He was a carefree young emperor who literally went in to the path of detachment and liberation after witnessing the four encounters on the streets of Kalinga. Kalinga war entirely changed his perspective towards life.
