Niccolò Machiavelli is considered to be the father of Realpolitik.
Realpolitik is a political system which is based on realistic and practical ideas rather than beliefs, morals and doctrines. Machiavelli believed and propounded such kind of political system. He wrote in The Prince how a King or ruler can remain in power and all foul means should be taken to strengthen one's state or kingdom. He argued a ruler should be feared rather than loved by his subjects.
