Although Charles Darwin is considered to be by many the "father" of evolutionary thought, he was in fact aided and guided by the works of many scientists before him. The theories and ideas proposed by his predecessors were limited to the information available at the time.
In the early 19th century Jean-Baptiste Lamarck (1744 – 1829) proposed his theory of the transmutation of species, the first fully formed theory of evolution. In 1858 Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace published a new evolutionary theory, explained in detail in Darwin's On the Origin of Species

Charles Darwin is considered to be 'Father of Evolution' due to his contributions to the field of evolution. Charles Darwin proposed the Theory of Natural selection. Natural selection theory states that the individuals with special traits survive by escaping from the predators to multiply their number while other individuals will perish from the environment.
