A president of the Republic of India is the head of the state of India and the commander-in-chief of the Indian army.

The President is inderectly elected by the Parliament (both houses) which is directly elected by the people.

The president has many powers with a few exceptions.

However, he is bound by the constituition to exercise his powers only on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Cabinet as long as that advice does not vioalte the constuition in any way.

The current president of India is Sir Ram nath Kovind who is the 14th president and the second Dalit to be elected as the head of the states.
