Why cannot animals make food from co2 water and sunlight like plants?

Because there is an another important agent involved in photosynthesis which is chlorophyll. And that is not present in animals.
So, animals cannot synthesise their own food.
Actually if we are in sunlight then synthesis of Vitamin D is done in our body but that is not sufficient to fulfill the needs of our complex body.
