In the The Thief’s Story, the author Ruskin Bond portrays two main characters – Hari Singh and Anil.

Hari was a thief and he lived a life of cheating others. One day, Anil met Hari and he employed him as his cook as he wanted to have home-made meals. Though he didn’t earn enough money, he thought of keeping Hari with him and help in teaching to read and write.

He earned a little only by writing stories and articles for magazines. Though he had a less amount, he wished Hari to be with him and was kind to him.
