When they were in the village, narrator and his grandmother spent almost no time apart from each other. Their lives were so interspersed with each other's but when he moved to the city, it was altogether different. His grandmother couldn't help him with his studies because she didn't approve of it and didn't know anything about these. She couldn't understand him or his life anymore and he couldn't understand hers. It was as if their bond had somehow got weakened with the shift.
