The conventional sources of energy are more popular than the non-conventional sources for various reasons. They are:-
1. Non-conventional sources are difficult to harness, it requires high installation expenditure, so not yet economically viable.
2. These non-conventional sources are far away from the cities and thus are difficult to harness, involves a high transport cost.
3. Non-conventional sources of energy might cause a destruction of natural habitats of many animals and trees like Tidal energy and Wind-energy generation plants.
4. Non-conventional source like Nuclear energy might result in radioactive wastes/
5. Non-viable means of production employed in tapping non-conventional energy results in considerable wastage of energy.

Although all forms of Non conventional energy resources are clean and eco-friendly, they have some disadvantages:
1. Nuclear energy: A nuclear leakage or working in a nuclear power plant is very risky and it poses threat to the human life.
2. Development of solar panels to get solar energy is very costly.
Solar panels produce DC current, which has many disadvantages over AC current. A DC voltage cannot be easily stepped up or down. A DC current is of much less power than AC current.
3. Setting up of windmills is also costly. The areas where speed of wind is at least 15kph is difficult to find.
On the other hand, although conventional energy resources pollute the environment, they have many advantages:
1. They can be stored and can be used at any time.
2. They produce tremendous amount of energy (although nuclear energy produces more power than coal and petroleum).
3. They are cheap to produce.
