The rose is the world's most popular flower and it is available in many colours and hues- white, pink, red, yellow, orange, Maroon and many sets in between.

But roses do not come in blue colour. The main reason is the lack of pigment called delphinidin, which is derived from a compound called anthocyanin and produces the blue colour.

Till recently, flowers sold as blue roses were mostly white roses, died in blue. But now scientists have been able to produce real blue roses through genetic engineering. They have clowned the delphinidin gene from the pansy flower along with genes from the Iris flower and inserted them Into the white rose making them produce the delphinidin pigment, thus giving rise to genuine blue roses.
