fungi cannot prepare there own food because They are considered as saprophytes that is they obtain their nutrition from dead organic material(dead plants and animals). The plants contain chlorophyll, so they can produce their own food.

they can't prepare their own food as they lack chlorophyll and they sustain their life through dead and decaying materials
