Why is crystallisation better than evaporation?

Anonymous: Crystallisation is a process that separates a pure solid in the form of its crystals from a solution.
Crystallisation is better than evaporation because during Evaporation
• Some solids decompose or some, like sugar may get charred on heating to dryness.
• Some impurities may remain dissolved in the solution even after filtration which on evaporation contaminates the solid.

The process of evaporation gives residue which may contain impurities. When there is requirement to obtain solid without impurity, crystallisation method is preferred.

In general practice, impure solids are obtained by evaporation and are further purified by crystallisation. e.g. salt obtained from sea is further purified by this method.

In some cases e.g. sugar crystal cannot be obtained by simple evaporation technique because sugar gets charred on heating to dryness. In such cases, crystallisation technique is applied.

Crystallisation technique for purification is better than evaporation because...

⚛Extent of purification in case of crystallisation technique is very high.

⚛It does not require very high temperature conditions, there is no need to boil the solvent.

⚛The technique does not require complex apparatus setup for performing the purification.

⚛If the compound is soluble in one solvent & less soluble or insoluble in other solvent, crystallisation can be done by mixing of the two solvents only.
