Evaluating information sources is a important part of the research process. Not all information is reliable or true, nor will all information be suitable for your paper or project. Print and Internet sources vary widely in their authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency, and coverage.

There are six (6) criteria that should be applied when evaluating any Web site: authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency, coverage, and appearance. For each criteria, there are several questions to be asked.

The media plays a crucial role in deciding on the newsworthiness of an issue . It sets the agenda on what to focus on and what not to focus on. It shapes public opinions and thoughts. It brings to light issue requiring our attention. However at times, they cover issues or events which are of little significance to the masses at the expense of greater issues. It may alter or present an information in a manner suiting a vesting interest. Therefore, it is important for the readers and viewers to understand and evaluate the news presented by the media impartially
