Somatic cells, like skin and bones, are the ones that undergo mitosis. Gametes undergo meiosis, a very different process that creates haploid cells with half a set of chromosomes. Mitosis does not occur in haploid cells because a) they do not have a full set of DNA and b) they are not somatic, Hope this helped!
