The overuse of phone can leads to pain in eyes, redness in eyes and even headache. The condition is same as while studying when you watch movies, just your brain is focused on movie so you don't relalize it. Studying is not much interesting as movies so you distarct from it and focus on pain. Siple as that.

It happens a lot with me too.
