Why rate of photosynthesis is maximum in red light?

Photosynthesis is maximum in red light because the green chlorophyll absorbs red better than any other color of the spectrum. The structure of the pigment molecules (chlorophylls a and b) allows them to absorb photons of these wavelengths more efficiently.
