Explanation:

Three things are required in proper combination before ignition and combustion can take place---Heat, Oxygen and Fuel. There must be Fuel to burn. There must be Air to supply oxygen. There must be Heat (ignition temperature) to start and continue the combustion process.

Aim - To show air is necessary for combustion

Materials Required - Glass, Candle, matchsticks

Procedure -

1. Take a candle and light it up.

2. Place an inverted glass over it.

3. Observe for few minutes.

Observation - After a few minutes, the candle will extinguish.

Conclusion - The candle extinguishes when all the air (oxygen) inside the glass is used. This proves us that air is necessary for combustion.
