The Security Council is the executive organ of the United Nations. Its main responsibility is to maintain international peace and execute the decisions of the General Assembly of the United Nations. But the members may disobey the orders and the decisions of the Security Council. If the U.N. is not a State, the Security Council cannot be a government.

The United Nations Security Council is one of branches of United Nations which helps in maintaining world peace.

EXPLANATION:

After the end of Second World War in 1945, the disastrous effect of the war was seen and the leaders of the world felt a need that there should be a powerful, independent and impartial union of body that should be entered for maintaining the world peace, and in this process United Nations Security Council was created.

It has 5 permanent member and these include, China, Russia, France, United States, and the United Kingdom. India is not among five permanent members of this council.

This body of United Nations has played important role in maintaining world peace by intervening in several war-like situations like the war in the Korean Peninsula, the war in Sudan, the war in Congo, etc. This body of UN also imposes restrictions and bans on countries related to terrorist activities, like the recent ban on Iran.
