• Ingestion is process by which an animal takes in food and pushes it to further down the alimentary canal with the help of muscles.

• Digestion, on other hand, is process by which complex food materials are broken down into simpler and absorbable food materials with the help of mechanical smashing and enzymes.

• Ingestion is active process whereas digestion is  passive process.
