Psychoactive plants are the plants with hallucinogenic properties which induce psychotropic effects i.e. they alter the state of mind and consciousness when ingested in simple or complex form. They induce distortions in thoughts, mood and perception opposite to reality and one enters a dreamy state. Most famous examples of hallucinogens are Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum), Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) and Marijuana (Cannabis sativa).
