They are 40 meters apart.

Step-by-step explanation:

x and y start walking towards each other from the distance of 200 meter.

After walking 60 meter on the road, y terns left and goes 20 meters, then he turns right and walk 40 meter, he turns right again and comes back  to the road.

distance walked by y = 60 m + 20 m + 40 m + 20 m

                                   = 140 meter

distance deviated by x = 20 + 20 = 40 meter

covered distance of road = 140 - 40 = 100 meter

At the same time x walked 140 meter on the road.

Therefore, the distance between them = 140 - 100 = 40 meter

They are 40 meters apart.
