let 1/x=a

y-3a=8            ..........(i)

2y+7a=3          ..........(ii)

multiply 2 on (i) we get

2y-6a=16         ...........(iii)

add (ii) and (iii) we get

a=19

1/x=19            (∵1/x=a)

x=1/19             .............(iv)

putting a=19 in (i) we get

y-57=8

y=8+57

y=65              ..............(v)

y-x=65-1/19                [from (iv) and (v)]

=1234/19
