You might have seen some beautiful fireworks during Diwali. It is an example of transformation of chemical energy into light energy. Fireworks contain very simple chemicals which are actually solid.

When it gets ignited by fire, chemical changes start to take place which totally convert the solid composition to some gaseous chemicals.

The reactions take place very quickly producing gaseous substances near about instantaneously. Change from solid to gaseous also changes volume of the element.

As the large amount of gas is produced the gas can’t stay confined to that small space and explodes with loud sound and light which we call “fireworks”.
