Answer:

Why do people in India do not raise their voice when they see something happening wrong in front of them?

Let me give you an example.

This reminded me of an incident happened a couple of months ago while I was in Bangalore.

It was around 7 pm and since it rained the whole day, the roads were muddy (as usual). It was so much frustrating & irritating walking on those roads.

On such road, there was a guy riding a bike trying hard to go through. As he was passing by, he overtook an auto full of 5 guys, driving recklessly. One can easily make out that they were drunk. As soon as this guy, overtook the auto, all 5 guys rushed out in rage and started hitting the poor guy badly.

There were many educated people passing by, but no one took any small effort to stop them. Rather, some were watching the scene with keen interest. The 5 wicked guys attacked the poor fellow because he was a non-local guy.

Finally, a lady, who was selling flowers took the initiative, fought verbally with them in local language (Kannada) and made them to move away! She then took care of the poor fellow and offered him some water. Apart from putting this great effort, she asked some thought provoking questions to the people around in local language!

We all have to answer them.

"You all professional people, what is the use of your education if you can't stop those guys? You wear ironed shirts and tuck-in, but you did not bother to help. Is it why you are called educated people? What if this happens to you or your relatives tomorrow?"

No one had an answer and everyone of us looked down in shame!

She was not educated but she stood high among all.

There are very few of such people who takes initiative but majority, do not bother!

There are 4 main reasons for this:

1) Ignorance - There are many such incidents happening in the world. I am busy with something else.

2) I am not that HERO - I can't help. Someone else (HERO) will.

3) Lack of empathy - This is not my problem. Why should I ?

4) Fear - What if 'I' get into trouble ?

What we are loosing in all the 4 reasons is a sense of 'morality' and 'humanity'.

What that flower-selling lady showcased is a sense of 'Social Unity'. If we can cultivate this sense in all of us, then there is nothing in us to STOP raising our voice against WRONG.

Cheers
