A cubical box of side 20cm. is immersed in a fluid. At the top if the box the pressure is 105kPa and at the bottom the pressure is 106.8kPa. What is the density of fluid? Guess the fluid.

Answer:

Let h = depth of the fluid at the top of the box

and d = density of the fluid

=> hdg = 105 x 10^3

and (h+0.20)dg = 106.8 x 10^3

=> (h + 0.20) / h = 106.8/105

=> h + 0.20 = 1.01715h

=> 0.01715h = 0.20

=> h = 11.66 m

[What is the density given for and is it density of the fluid or the material of the cubical box. It is not needed in the calculations.]
