The government of Britain formed a legislative commission under the leadership of Sir John Simon in 1927.

The commission was formed on account of increased nationalist movement in India. It’s main objective was to examine the functioning of constitutional system in India and suggest the necessary changes.

However, this commission didn’t have even a single Indian member and hence it was boycotted by the Indians.

When the commission visited India in 1928, people chanted the slogan, ‘Go back Simon’.
