Answer:

Yes I did . Once, I found a baby sparrow trapped in a drain. It had fallen from 1 floor above the ground and was hurt. I faced some problem in rescuing it since the drain was dirty and narrow and it was getting scared of my hand and backing off. But finally I got hold of it and then I kept it in a basket and fed it boiled rice and water. There were not many good veterinary clinic nearby (most of them knew about cows and dogs disease, but not specialized in birds). It was getting better and it learnt how to fly. It would come flying to me when I would clap my hands. It loved my family too. It would fly into our heads when we enter it's room. We were all very happy. We had kept it free so that it can fly away with its own kind whenever it wanted. But sadly, one morning I woke up to find it dead inside it's basket. I tried and cried and everybody became sad. Finally after some days, we moved on but we miss our baby sparrow 'Baby’ even today. I hope he is okay and happy in heaven and jumping on the angels' heads like he did on ours.

I carried out another rescue operation just about 1 year back. I found a baby pigeon walking in the corridors of our department. I observed it for some time and the next day also it was in the same place. It's crop was empty and I looked for any nest nearby but I couldn't find any. So, I decided to keep it with myself till it becomes fit enough to be on its own. I called a friend of mine and he helped me to take the pigeon to my hostel. As the pigeon was part bald, we called it 'Ganju’ (meaning someone who is bald in Hindi). I started feeding the pigeon and it become okay soon. I used to keep it inside my blanket with me when I study. But, then Ganju started feeling cold and caught cold. Since I was a double seater room and my roommate wanted to use the fan, I gave Ganju to my friend,Dattatreya, to take care of it. So, I missed Ganju but I knew he was in good hands. Dattatreya along with some of his friends took very good care of Ganju and would use to send me videos as a proof that Ganju is fine. As Ganju started recovering and I missed him, Dattatreya brought Ganju to meet me. We had a good time with Ganju who was starting to fly by then. But the next day, we don't know why, Ganju was found dead in his cartoon. We buried him near our cricket field. We also kept a msg for him inside an empty bottle we found nearby. We miss Ganju even today, but rescuing him made me see whom I can trust on.

This is my longest answer on Quora so far. This is something I always wanted to talk about. Eventually, both the birds I rescued died but they both taught us valuable lessons before death. Firstly, the lack of veterinary clinics in India is an issue that should be addressed soon. Secondly, we learn whom we can trust and whom not. Most importantly, they teach us that it is important to try, whether we succeed or not, it's in God's hand. But if we give without trying, we are the biggest loser. I admit I could not save the birds from death, but I am satisfied with myself that I tried my level best.

Hence, I would urge everyone to rescue any animal they can. It will give u a sense of happiness and responsibility once you do. Thank you for this wonderful question
