Character Analysis Assignment

Paragraph 1: Introduction ----Includes the thesis statement that says what your essay will prove. This essay must compare and contrast how Greg is at the beginning of the story and how he changes and is a different type of person at the end of the essay.
Example introduction paragraph-----A skilled author will cause his readers to think about life from a different perspective. Often this perspective comes from the way the main character changes throughout the story. Walter Dean Myers, in “The Treasure of Lemon Brown,” introduces us to a very interesting young, dynamic character. This young boy, Greg Ridley, makes an attitude adjustment about what is important in life after talking with an older man about what are life’s true treasures.

Show us what Greg’s attitude about his father was like in the beginning of the story. Be sure to either quote evidence from the story or paraphrase this evidence. Hint--- He was angry at him and frustrated by him.

Tell us about the conflicts that Greg had at the old abandoned house that caused him to change his thinking. Show evidence from the story by direct quote (using “ marks) or by paraphrase. Hint—1st conflict is when he is afraid of Lemon Brown and the second one is the thugs that threaten them both.
Paragraph 4: Body paragraph
Tell us how Greg has changed at the end of the story. How is his attitude different than it was in the beginning? Be sure to quote from the story as evidence of what you say or paraphrase something as evidence from the story.
Paragraph 5: Conclusion
You need to summarize what you have shown us about how Greg has changed. Go back to your thesis statement and restate it in a slightly different way at the end of this paragraph so that the essay sounds finished.
